beauty: blemish cover up

My grandma informed me that I was too old for acne the other day during our Skype call, but it seems that my skin is not privy to my grandma's knowledge, lol! If your skin is also ignorant to the age laws of breakouts then this blemish cover up and treatment guide can be your savior!

1. Wash your face - Make sure you wash all of your makeup off at the end of the day, tone and moisturize per usual.

2. If you have a cystic blemish - Using a q-tip, dab some hydrocortisone cream onto the blemish and cover with a water proof band aid. This will help reduce the inflammation of the bump and speed recovery. Do not mix with any other acne treatment.

3. If you have a regular blemish - Using a q-tip treat the spot with a sulfur-based spot treatment. I prefer Dermalogica Sulfur Spot Treatment or Malin+Goetz Acne Treatment. Be careful, the sulfur smell is hard to remove from sheets and pillow cases!

4. Visine - It gets the red out of blemishes too! Visine is a vasoconstrictor, which means that it makes your blood vessels smaller and less visible. The saline will help dry out the blemish as well - magic!

5. Cover up - After the Visine has dried, apply your foundation as you normally would. Then use a cream concealer such as this one I use from Mineralogie.

6. Seal - Using a sponge dab the spot with powder to set the concealer.

7. Be prepared - As the day goes on the cover up may start to wear off, be prepared with a spot concealer in your purse! I use Almay Spot Concealer with Silicic Acid in it.

8. Cortisone shot - If your breakout happens before a big event and you really need it to be gone, you can go to your dermatologist and get a cortisone shot which will instantly heal the blemish.

9. If your a guy - obviously the heavy makeup is out. Go for the Visine and invest in the Almay spot concealer I mentioned above. It's basically just tented acne treatment and it's very light so nobody will think you have on "makeup."

I hope this is helpful! I know this routine works wonders on my skin.

xo, April
