discover: la summer to do list

LA summer to do list

Despite the monotonously beautiful weather we have in so-cal year-round, there is something magical about summers in LA! Everyone comes out of the wood works and there is an electric vibe around the city for the 3 glorious months.
With all of the pool parties, outside markets, and beautiful hikes to take - I decided to comprise a checklist of activities that I can't wait to do this year! If you do not live in the area but plan on making a trip down then this list will give you some great ideas off the beaten tourist path.

1. Pool Parties: Our favorite weekly pool parties are the Roosevelt, XIV, Mondrian (although they may have some music restrictions this year) and The Standard every Sunday throughout summer. Here is a complete list of all of the pool parties in Los Angeles. For DJ line ups check the websites.

2. Cinespia: This is one of my favorite things to do in LA! Basically it's movie screenings in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery - sounds a little creepy, but it's totally awesome! They play oldies but goodies featuring many of the celebs who currently reside in the cemetery. You can bring a picnic and booze and a DJ spins before and after screening. It's a must!

3. Huntington Library Botanical Gardens: I've been told you could go here 100 times and see something different every time! They even have a tea house for traditional english tea. I can't wait to check this one off the list.

4. The Getty: The Getty has later hours on Fridays throughout summer for dinners and events, they even have a sunday brunch. The views from the restaurant are unbelievable and you can stop by a few art exhibits on the way. Or head to the Getty Villa in Malibu for their Tea by the Sea on Thursdays and Saturdays.

5. Santa Monica Pier Concerts: This is the 28th annual year of the Thursday concerts at the Santa Monica pier. They usually feature up and coming artists and it's always a good time.

6. Paradise Cove: I love going out to Paradise Cove in Malibu once summer hits. The restaurant owns a stretch of beach and you can reserve their cabanas on the beach for the day and drink, eat and enjoy the sun! Or head over the restaurant around sunset for a more romantic vibe!

9. Free Yoga at Runyon Canyon: Everyday during the summer they offer free yoga classes at the base of Runyon. The view is beautiful and if you have time you can hit the trail after for some cardio! Check their FB page for instructors and times

10. The Greek:  Everyone always raves about the Hollywood Bowl as THE outdoor concert venue, but the Greek theatre is equally as cool and usually has better line ups.

Hopefully this post inspires you to mix it up a little bit this summer and try something new! Do you know of anything else fun to do in LA during the summer time? I'd love to hear!!

xo, April
