discover: la opera

There are so many new things to discover in LA, which is one of our favorite things about this city. The caliber of talent and performances we are able to witness first hand are truly amazing. We were talking on the phone last Thursday when we discovered that we both had tickets to the Opera but on different nights, which goes to show how synced we really are!! Going to the Opera is a great date night activity and something fun and different to experience. We were bummed we went one night apart, but both had a great time with our boyfriends. We are planning on seeing the Book of Mormon together next, which April saw in New York and thought it was phenomenal.

Britt saw The Two Foscari: Placido Domingo and Marina Poplavskaya stole the show and were undeniably incredible! This show is only playing six showings in LA so it was a really amazing treat to see! There are still two more shows if you want to go coming up Sunday and Tuesday so if you can check it out it is beyond worth it. We just couldn't believe the beautiful voices filling the entire theater could be coming from one person and it makes you realize how talented some people are! We got a little restless a couple times since it was pretty long but they gave us two breaks to get a glass of wine, stretch, and take pics so overall it was amazing!

April saw Don Giovanni: This was my first time at the Opera and I loved everything about it, from the old men dressed in their finest to the incredible voices of the cast. Some people warned me that the show was very long, but I was so wrapped up in the performance that I didn't even notice. The story of Don Giovanni definitely falls under the Rom-Com category so next time I would love to see La Bohème which is a bit more dramatic and serious.

Here are some great downtown restaurants to checkout before or after the Opera:

Sugarfish - Britt's fav sushi in LA. She frequents the Santa Monica and Studio City locations and the downtown location lives up to the highest standards! Have to do the TRUST ME - relax, no decisions necessary!

Bottega Louie - Definitely a favorite, great ambiance and food for a casual restaurant - they don't do reservations though so come early.

Kendall's Brasserie - This is where April and her BF ate before the show and the food was great! The restaurant is right under the LA Opera so it's convenient too!

  2. I've always wanted to go to the opera–it seems so fancy and upscale. It looks like you girls had a great time (and you looked lovely!).
